Plug-In

Location
This week, courtesy of our colleague Dave Hecht, we’ll meet from 4 to 6pm at the Prime Produce Apprentice Cooperative, at 424 W 54th Street. I’ll order pizzas! ๐๐๐ Please feel free to bring other food and drink to share!
Agenda
We left this week’s agenda open to respond to your interests and needs. Several of you expressed interest in taking some time to reflect on our experiences and readings from the past few weeks. So, we’ll start our session by touring the Cybernetics Library housed at Prime Produce; then we’ll engage in some reflective conversation in small groups and in plenary discussion. I’ll also solicit your feedback on the class thus far. Since this is our inaugural session of the Cross-Reference Coalition, your constructive commentary will be tremendously helpful as I plan for the spring โ both our publication workshops and the next thematic cohort (which will focus on Search & Discovery)!
To Prepare for This Week
- Review the class website to remind yourself of where we’ve been, what we’ve done, what we’ve read and listened to and watched in preparation for those activities, who we’ve met, and how your understanding of “misfit” โ perhaps even yourself as a misfit โ has evolved.Think forward to our final class on December 4, when we’ll hear everyone’s preliminary plans for their contribution to our publication, we’ll workshop those ideas, and we’ll think about how to manifest our critical, aesthetic, and ethical commitments in a material object. Review the Our Publication page. We’ll be reflecting on the Cross-Reference Coalition in today’s class and again in the spring, and I’ll make any necessary changes based on your feedback! But because we’re also starting to recruit folks for our new spring cohort, I’d welcome any brief testimonials you’d like to offer (this is totally optional!): a couple sentences addressing what the class has meant to you, what it’s offered you, what you’ve appreciated about it, how it’s informed your work or creative practice, how you think it could benefit others, etc. Please email me or METRO’s Becca Quon (with whom you were originally in contact about your class registration) with any comments you’d like to pass along to prospective participants! Thanks in advance ๐๐Please complete this poll of your availability for our spring workshops. We’ll meet twice for peer review / mutual aid workshops, and you’ll meet at least twice (more often if you like) with Shannon and/or Elaine as you develop your contributions.
